Who Does the Work

We work on garage doors in Rapid City and the towns around it. That's the whole job description. No franchise script, no upsell list - just torsion springs, openers, tracks, and panels on the doors people in this area actually own.

Hardware from 1989 era

Most of the houses we get called to went up between 1972 and 2007, with the median build year landing around 1989. That matters more than people think. A door installed in 1991 doesn't use the same hardware a 2005 build does, and an opener from either era isn't getting a modern safety sensor bolted onto it without some adapting.

Mostly 1980s-90s stock

Across the nine named areas we see most - think the stretch from Rapid Valley through Colonial Pine Hills - the bulk of the stock is 1980s and 90s construction, so we spend most of our time on a fairly narrow band of door ages and spring types, not a little of everything.

No inflated company history

We don't claim a founding year or a crew size here, because neither tells you anything about whether we can get your door running again. What we can tell you is what we work on and where, and we'd rather be straight about that than pad the page.

Our services

The Work We Take On

Broken torsion springs, snapped cables, openers that grind but won't lift, bent track, panels that took a hit from a bumper or a hailstorm. That's the bulk of the calls.

Cold-climate wear on hardware

Rapid City sits in a cold-climate band with severe winter conditions, and that shows up in the work. Steel rollers seize in cold grease. Weatherstripping cracks and lets wind under the bottom panel. Torsion springs that are already near the end of their cycle count tend to go in the first hard cold snap of the season, not in July.

Sizing springs for climate

We size springs and openers with that in mind rather than installing whatever's cheapest off the shelf. We do have a limit: if a door is bent badly enough, or old enough, that the repair cost gets close to a new door, we'll tell you that instead of billing you for a patch that won't hold through next winter.

Straight talk on replacement

Replacement sometimes makes more sense than repair, and we'd rather say so up front. We cover Rapid City itself along with Rapid Valley, Green Valley, Colonial Pine Hills, Box Elder, and Summerset, and we'll take calls further out in Keystone, Hermosa, New Underwood, and Hill City as distance allows.

How to Reach Us

Call 16053402412. If you'd rather start online, you can find us at /. Our address is 631 Saint Anne St, Rapid City, SD 57701. That's the shop - most jobs happen at your garage, not ours, but it's there if you need to find us in person.

Describing symptoms on calls

When you call, it helps to know whether the door won't move at all, moves partway and stops, or runs but makes a noise it didn't used to make.

Spring versus opener clues

Torsion spring failures usually mean the door won't budge and one side of the top hangs lower than the other. Opener issues usually mean the door physically can move by hand but the motor won't do it.

Never force a stuck door

Either way, don't force a door that's stuck - a stuck torsion spring under load is the single most common way people hurt themselves on a garage door.

Quick answers

The Short Version

Rapid City's garage doors mostly date to a 30-year window centered on the late 1980s, the winters here are cold enough that hardware fails on a schedule tied to the weather, and we work on doors in Rapid City and the towns within about 20 miles of it - Rapid Valley, Green Valley, Colonial Pine Hills, Box Elder, Summerset, Keystone, Hermosa, New Underwood, and Hill City.

We don't repair something that should be replaced, and we don't invent a backstory to sound bigger than we are. Call 16053402412 if your door's stuck, grinding, or just not right.

Questions

Common questions

Why did my garage door spring break in the cold?

Torsion springs lose a bit of flex as temperatures drop, and Rapid City's winters sit in a severe cold band, so a spring that's near the end of its cycle count often fails on the first hard cold snap rather than in summer. If your door suddenly won't lift and one side of the top section hangs lower, that's almost always a broken torsion spring, not the opener.

Do you work outside Rapid City itself?

Yes. We cover Rapid Valley, Green Valley, Colonial Pine Hills, Box Elder, and Summerset regularly, and we'll take calls out to Keystone, Hermosa, New Underwood, and Hill City depending on distance. Call 16053402412 and tell us where you're located.

Is my door too old to repair?

Depends on the door, not just the age. A lot of what we see dates to the 1972-2007 build window, and plenty of those doors just need a spring or roller swap. But if the track is badly bent or the panels are rusted through, we'll tell you straight that replacement beats repair rather than billing you for a patch.
